Celebrating the Last Roll out of Transport for London’s 20 MPH Wind Banner Project

We’ve recently wrapped up the final phase of a wind banner project that began in early 2023. This stage involved installing banners on lampposts to highlight 20 mph speed limits in Kidbrooke, Tooting, Richmond and other London boroughs. The work forms part of a greater London-wide project commissioned in late 2022 by CDS Print Services on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).
Minimising environmental impact was crucial to the project. We printed the banners on recyclable non-PVC vinyl and used solvent-free long-life HP inks that are non-toxic and safe, as well as designed not to fade or bleed. We sourced air sprung mechanisms and high strength steel brackets from India, both engineered to meet safety standards and resist winds up to 70mph. TFL tested and certified our construction and materials before we began the rollout. As with all public-space work, detailed site surveys and Risk Assessment and Method Statements were produced ahead of starting the rollout.
Joe Tosney, Account Director at CDS Print Services, said: “We chose Just AJD on the strength of its ability to manage and execute very large, long-term installation projects where efficient roll out was absolutely critical."
“It was vital that the contractor for this very high profile project would be able to install the banners precisely to TFL’s timetable and be able to meet strict health & safety and environmental standards. We also wanted a supplier that could resolve quickly issues like vandalism or storm damage. Just AJD have been really responsive and have gone above and beyond in delivering this important contract for us.”
