Printing FAQs
The FAQs page helps you get the most out of our large format printing solutions. From artwork specifications, prices, timescales, delivery costs and more, here are clear answers to the questions we’re asked the most. For further help, contact us by phone or email.
We are a large-format printer but we can produce items of all sizes, from large to small, depending what customers need. For example, our typical vinyl banners are usually 2m x 1m or 3m x 1m but we provide a very flexible service and can produce printed items large enough to cover whole buildings. If there’s anything you need printed please get in touch and we can discuss it. In the unlikely event we can’t help you, we’ll recommend an alternative reputable supplier.
We print on PVC-free vinyl for banners, both for indoors and outdoors, and on a range of metals including aluminium steel and eco-plastics and acrylic for all types of signage, and canvas for wall art and fine art reproductions. We also print on durable anti-graffiti laminates for panels designed to be used on external hoardings.
We accept artwork submitted on PDF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG and other formats. We can advise on which formats are best for each particular print job. If there are any technical issues when submitting your artwork, we will be able to help.
You can upload your artwork directly to our website for every product as long as it is in high resolution and a vectored PDF. When a file is vectored, it allows us to blow up images to be as large as needed without the image distorting. We can also embed fonts in vectored files.
If you have any problems submitting artwork, please get in touch and we can talk you through it. You can also submit artwork by email. We’re also very happy to see customers in person at our Wimborne premises.
We don’t offer design services ourselves but we are very happy to recommend excellent designers we have worked closely with over many years. They will be delighted to discuss your project.
For large prints, files should be saved at 150–300 dpi, depending on viewing distance.
Please follow our artwork guide on our website, which you can find here >. This tells you everything you need to know when submitting your artwork, including bleed margins and crop guides.
The colours you see on screen are different from the ones we see when we mix inks. Screen colours are made from light and ours are from ink. This means colours appear brighter on screens. Also, every customer’s screen is different, depending on its age and the make and model of their PC, laptop, phone or tablet. Through years of experience, we are able to achieve the closest colour matches possible but they will never be exactly the same. If it’s critical on colour, please ask for a hard copy printed proof first, which we’ll be delighted to provide.
Our quality is guaranteed. We care enormously about the quality of our work and want every customer to be happy every time they use our services. We only retain customers and win new ones because of the quality of our work.
Each job is different depending on the quantity of items ordered and the requirements of the customer. Roller banners can be printed and delivered in three days in most instances. An order such as 50 roller banners would take two days to print and would be delivered to customers on the third day.
For urgent orders, we do next day delivery if we receive artwork by noon the previous day. Orders for exterior signage projects have longer lead times and generally require site surveys and risk assessment reports.
Deliveries depend on the weight and size of the order. If the order is in London there is a separate additional cost that normally amounts to 4% of the total, which covers unavoidable fees like ULEZ fees and Congestion Charge. Customers are also most welcome to collect orders from our Wimborne facility if they don’t want to pay for a courier.
Yes, we always happy to provide a quote. Please let us know what you want and your approximate deadline and we can supply a pretty accurate estimate. Each job is different but because we have been in business for decades our quotes are usually close to the final invoice.
Some items, such as outdoor signage, usually need a site survey first to ensure all measurements are correct and the fittings will be the right ones for the type of installation. There are also likely to be planning conditions that need to be assessed during a site survey. For example, illuminated signs will need planning permission because of potential light pollution.
Yes. Our outdoor signage is designed specifically to stand up to most normal weather conditions, such as sun, wind, rain and snow. Even temporary installations, such as outdoor banners, are designed to cope well with typical weather.
Our standard finishes are gloss, matte and satin. We also print on anti-graffiti laminates for outdoor installations. We are always happy to recommend finishes depending your requirements.
